In Roxbury Township, the Dog-Eared Thrift Shop raises money for Eleventh Hour Rescue. The rescue is a mostly volunteer-run nonprofit founded in 2004. It saves dogs and cats from high-kill shelters and cares for them in foster homes, its kennel and its adoption centers until they're adopted. A yellow-and-green Thrift Shoppe banner hangs in the front window beside a Dog-Eared sign with cartoon dogs on it.
The stock comes from donated home decor, kitchen and holiday items, framed art, books, CDs, DVDs, lamps, small furniture, game consoles, puzzles, handbags, jewelry and collectibles. Donations are taken during set drop-off hours on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, the only days the shop opens. It turns away clothing, shoes, bedding, televisions, computers and baby products, and large furniture has to be approved first.
