Smith College runs the Common Goods Resource Center in Northampton, Massachusetts, to provide material resources to students who otherwise may not have access to them. Its store carries winter gear, toiletries, cleaning products, linens, room essentials and a small selection of food. Some items are new, and secondhand goods come in through Smithcycle. Students register on the PantrySoft platform, place orders online and schedule a pick-up time, since walk-in orders are no longer accepted.
The center also runs the Common Goods Book Nook, a lending library of used textbooks that rescues and redistributes books that would otherwise be thrown away. Most of the collection is class materials, and it also has books for general reading. The Book Nook accepts donations of most class materials, and all end-of-year donations go through Smithcycle.
