Run by the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, this thrift shop belongs to a nonprofit that helps Navy and Marine Corps personnel with financial assistance. That help includes interest-free loans and grants, emergency travel home when a family member is seriously ill, and relief after hurricanes, floods and wildfires. The society also runs financial education programs such as Budget for Baby.
The shop sells household goods, clothing and toys, and some of the society's shops also keep uniform lockers for active duty service members and retirees. Wooden shelves of glassware and dishes line the sales floor beside racks of clothing. The Washington shop is open on weekdays and closed on weekends.
