Mel Trotter Ministries Thrift Store in Kentwood raises money for the programs of Mel Trotter Ministries, a Christian organization whose mission is to show the compassion of Jesus Christ to people facing hunger and homelessness. The store helps spread public awareness of the ministry's work, which includes shelter, meals and housing support. Red letters spelling out its name run across a cream facade above a gray shingled roofline.
Donations of clothing, shoes, toys, books, furniture, small appliances and household goods are welcome, and a receipt is offered on request. Drop-offs are taken during daytime hours, with an after-hours donation box, and large items can be scheduled for curbside pickup. Mattresses, car seats, helmets and building materials are not accepted. The store is open six days a week, into the evening, and closed Sundays.
