In Atlanta, the Cathedral of St. Philip has run Cathedral Thrift House as a nonprofit shop since 1949, with staff and volunteers managing the store. Racks of better-quality women's and men's clothing hang alongside evening and bridal wear, and staff help customers put together outfits for job interviews, work and special occasions.
Home goods include art, rugs, lamps, china, glassware, decorative accessories and furniture, with vintage, antique and new-with-tags pieces in the mix. Books, magazines, CDs, DVDs and vinyl records round out the stock. Certified appraisers assess donated art, silver and jewelry. Donations are accepted during a set midday window on each of the five days the shop is open, Tuesday through Saturday.
