Open Thursdays and Saturdays, the Community Thrift Shop in Stamford takes cash only and closes whenever Stamford Public Schools close for snow. Its stock includes clothing for babies, children and adults, along with home goods and jewelry, and new items arrive every week. Donations of clothing, home goods, small furniture and jewelry can be dropped off any time the shop is open. Books, CDs, DVDs, electronics and used toys are not accepted.
St. John's Episcopal Church provides the shop's space at the back of the church as part of its outreach program. All proceeds go to local, national and international nonprofits, including Americares, Habitat for Humanity, Kids in Crisis and the Stamford Animal Shelter Alliance. The entrance is a red-framed glass door set into a gray block wall.
