Foster Army's thrift store in Riverside accepts donated goods Tuesday through Sunday on a first-come, first-served basis until it runs out of room. The shop is open six days a week, Sundays included, and parking is behind the building. Visitors can shop and adopt pets here, and the store also runs an online shop.
Foster Army Animal Rescue runs the store. Its sales pay for medical treatment of treatable animals the rescue pulls from regional shelters. Foster volunteers then nurse those animals back to health and place them in permanent homes. The rescue focuses on pets most at risk of euthanasia, such as seniors, underage, injured, sick and special-needs animals, as part of its effort to make Riverside a no-kill city. Out front, the store's name stands in raised metal letters on a curved red brick wall framed by palm trees.
