Donations are accepted Monday through Saturday during daytime hours, and pickups can be scheduled as well. The store takes clothing, shoes, accessories, bedding, drapes, towels, furniture, jewelry, electronics, small kitchen appliances, dinnerware, toys, sporting equipment, books, music and even cars in drivable condition. Donated items can't have rips, stains or pests, and they can't need repairs. Second Harvest is open six days a week, into the evening, and closed on Sundays.
Harvest Youth Ministries runs the shop. It is a Christian nonprofit in Dayton that does outreach to young people and helps teens and their families break cycles of poverty and unemployment. The store provides jobs, serves as an outreach of its own and supports the ministry's general fund. Wooden dining tables, chairs and a rocker sit out front under a white sign with orange lettering.
