Proceeds from Ruth's Room, a nonprofit resale shop in Denton, Texas, go to Habitat for Humanity of Denton County, and the store has given more than $2.3 million to that work so far. Its stock changes constantly and covers furniture, housewares and clothing. Shoes, purses, books, toys, jewelry, electronics and kitchen goods also come through as donations. Donated goods that don't sell are recycled responsibly.
Rough fieldstone panels set into the brown front of the building mark the shop. It is open five days a week, Tuesday through Saturday, and the sales change every day. Donations are accepted at the store on the same days, with a staff member greeting each drop-off. Pickup can be arranged for larger furniture once photos of the pieces have been sent.
