Every sale at the Nearly New Shop in Reedley, California, helps fund Mennonite Central Committee, an Anabaptist Christian ministry that does relief, development and peace work in 45 countries as well as in Canada and the U.S. Once operating costs are covered, the proceeds go to MCC projects both locally and abroad.
The shop is part of MCC Thrift, a network of secondhand shops that began in 1972. It sells donated clothing and household goods, and community members can donate items or volunteer there. MCC Thrift shops rely mostly on volunteers, with a small paid staff organizing their work. A white hanging sign with black lettering and the MCC cross-and-dove emblem marks the entrance. The shop is open six days a week and closed on Sundays.
