Savers in Holbrook sells secondhand clothing for the whole family, plus dinnerware, accessories, books, housewares and electronics. TVI, Inc., a for-profit reuse company, runs the store, which is open seven days a week with evening hours. Every Tuesday, shoppers 55 and older get a senior discount, and Super Savers Club members have their own sales. A red Savers sign sits on the beige entrance tower, and the Community Donation Center has its own door to the left.
The donation center takes clothing, shoes, bed and bath items, books, toys, housewares, electronics, sporting goods, small appliances and small furniture, and donors get a discount on their next purchase. Shopping here doesn't benefit a charity. Instead, Savers pays Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island for donated goods, which helps fund the group's one-to-one mentoring for children facing adversity.
