Known locally as HUT, this Lafayette thrift store is built on partnerships with local nonprofits, and those ties shape how it does business. The groups it supports include the Affiliated Blind of Louisiana, which trains people with visual impairments in job and living skills, mobility and Braille. Another is Family Promise of Acadiana, which gives shelter, meals and support to families without homes. The third is TRAIL, which builds recreational facilities such as bike paths and paddle trails.
The stock covers furniture, toys, electronics, clothing, housewares, bath accessories, books, shoes and purses. Donated goods that can't be sold go to other local companies, and furniture is recycled through Community United in Prayer and Services. The store is open six days a week and closed on Sundays.
