In Hillsboro, Kansas, the Et Cetera Shop sells secondhand clothing and household goods. All of its stock is donated, and each item gets a second life on its shelves. The shop belongs to MCC Thrift, which grew out of a temporary shop that opened in 1972. Volunteers do the core of the work, and the doors are open five days a week.
Sales first cover the shop's running costs. The rest of the money goes to Mennonite Central Committee, an Anabaptist Christian ministry and international charity. That money pays for relief, development and peace projects in local communities and in 45 countries around the world.
