In Mundelein, Home of the Sparrow runs Sparrow's Nest, a thrift store and donation center whose net proceeds fund programs helping women and children move from homelessness to self-sufficiency. The store also supplies clothing, furniture and housewares at no cost to clients of Home of the Sparrow and partnering agencies. Apart from mattresses and box springs, all merchandise is donated by community members.
Donations are taken until late afternoon on open days, and donors receive a blank receipt for their own tax records. Furniture pickup is also available. A text-message loyalty program earns rewards on purchases. Open six days a week and closed Sundays, the store carries its name in red script lettering across a white band above a gray tiled front.
