This charity thrift shop in Des Moines raises money for Animal Lifeline of Iowa, a no-kill shelter that rescues and rehabilitates special needs cats and dogs. Those animals include disabled, injured, abused and orphaned pets as well as pregnant or nursing mothers. Founded in 1986, the shelter serves the whole state, and the shop's proceeds help pay for its work. A white sign with blue lettering stands above the storefront's green metal awning.
The shop is open four days a week, Wednesday through Saturday, and takes donations on each of those days except Small Business Saturday after Thanksgiving. It does not accept large items, and anyone bringing more than a van or SUV load should set up a drop-off time in advance. Merchandise is not held for shoppers, and the shop accepts volunteer applications.
