Savers in Waipahu takes donations for United Cerebral Palsy Association of Hawai‘i, which is paid a fee for every pound of goods dropped off. The store is run by TVI, Inc., a for-profit company, so purchases don't benefit the nonprofit. Clothing for the whole family, dinnerware, accessories, books, housewares and electronics fill the store. A red sign reading "The Thrift Department Store" under the name hangs beneath a dark peaked gable.
Accepted donations also include backpacks, purses, bed and bath goods, shoes, sporting goods, toys, small appliances and small furniture, and each drop-off earns a discount on a later purchase. Tuesdays bring savings for shoppers 55 and older, while Super Savers Club members get Member Mondays and members-only sales. The doors open seven days a week and stay open into the evening.
