Sunshine Thrift in Bradenton fills more than 13,000 square feet with clothing, home décor, furniture, jewelry and everyday essentials, arranged by gender and category. More than 30,000 items are restocked each week, and discounts change from week to week. The store is open seven days a week and stays open into the evening.
Behind it is Sunshine Thrift Stores, a for-profit Florida company that has operated since 1982 and employs a staff of more than 130. It buys its inventory from charity partners, store returns, wholesalers and storage units. The Bradenton storefront carries a bright teal sign with a flamingo logo above a red metal awning.
