Colored tags show how long each item has been on the floor at Potter's House Thrift in Fayetteville, and the discount grows the longer a piece stays. A large chart on the wall shows the current markdown for each tag color, a system that keeps the inventory fresh.
The store is run by Potter's House, a Christian community organization, and it provides local jobs along with access to affordable goods. Proceeds go straight back into the community through the organization's programs and partnerships, and its work also includes a preschool. The doors are open seven days a week, with evening hours on some days. A long sign with the name in red letters runs across the white metal front of the building.
