Melbourne, on Florida's Space Coast, is home to the thrift stores of CITA Rescue Mission. CITA stands for Christ Is the Answer, and the mission has served the area since 1969. It is a Christ-centered nonprofit that offers shelter, recovery support and restoration to men, women and children. It runs a 52-bed men's recovery campus and Helen's House, a center for women and children in crisis. The mission takes no government funding.
Money from thrift store sales goes straight to the mission's programs, paying for shelter, meals and support. The stores take clean, sellable donated items, and donors can schedule a pickup. Volunteers help sort and price donations and work on pickup days. The doors are open seven days a week, and on at least one day the store stays open into the evening.
