Three days a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, The Hem of his Garment opens its doors in Swansboro, North Carolina. The store occupies a pale corrugated-metal building with a deep overhang that shelters a long row of green-sided rolling carts and bins along its front wall. Small signs mounted above those carts mark sections for housewares, shoes and toys. A sandwich board set out near the entrance announces that donations are accepted.
