In Asheville, the Asheville Habitat for Humanity ReStore has sold donated home goods and building supplies to the public since 1990. It is run by Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity, and the proceeds pay for the affiliate's home building and repair programs. Each year the store keeps thousands of tons of material out of the landfill. Its tan, vertically sided gable carries the ReStore name in large blue letters with a green recycling-arrow house in place of the "o."
Donors can schedule a pickup online, and the store also runs a deconstruction program. Since 2019, the Register Round Up program has let shoppers round their purchase up to the next dollar for a different local nonprofit each month. The store also holds an annual ReUse Contest and is open five days a week, Tuesday through Saturday.
