Franklin's Goodwill sells donated goods and also takes donations, seven days a week and into the evening on at least one day. It's run by Goodwill Industries of Northwest North Carolina, a nonprofit serving the region since 1926. Sales at the store pay for free job training and career services. The floor carries clothing, shoes, furniture, books, housewares and electronics.
Donors bring items around to the back of the building, behind the red brick arches set into its pale block front. The items most needed include clothing, furniture, flat screen televisions, linens, jewelry, collectibles and computers. Computers in any condition are taken for recycling. The store turns away large appliances, mattresses, CRT televisions, paint, building materials and recalled children's gear. All donations are tax-deductible.
