Pre-loved furniture, home decor and clothing fill the shelves at The Humble Hare in Mount Airy, a thrift shop run by Mountain Valley, a hospice organization. Every dollar of the proceeds pays for end-of-life care and related services for hospice patients who are uninsured or underinsured. The shop moved to its current home in October 2022 and was fully remade at the same time. A band of teal and green glass runs across its front.
Donated items must be clean and in new or nearly new condition. Furniture donors call the store before bringing anything in, and a free pickup can be requested for large donations. Donations can't be left outside. Volunteers help with sales, sorting and the box truck. The store is open six days a week and closed on Sundays.
