Profits from this New Bern thrift shop support Coastal Center for Hope & Healing, the organization formerly known as Coastal Women's Shelter. Helping Hands Boutique is open to the public on weekdays and runs on donations and volunteer work. Clothing hangs on dark wrought-iron racks, and dressed mannequins stand in the front window.
Donations are accepted on Fridays by appointment. Each week has appreciation days with discounts: military members and senior citizens on Wednesdays, educators on Thursdays and first responders on Fridays. A loyalty punch card rewards repeat shoppers. The boutique also gives needed items directly to the shelter's clients and their children.
