Lake City is home base for Friends Ministry, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) ministry whose thrift store is central to its work. The funds the store raises go toward emergency and long-term relief for more than 800 low-income families a year. That help covers costs such as unexpected car or home repairs, overdue utility bills and transportation. The store is open six days a week and closed Sundays. Inside, a long red counter sits at the front, and the sales floor is lined with white shelves of housewares and racks of clothing.
The Lake City store is the only location that takes donations, and only during store hours. Nothing should be left outside. Accepted items include clothing, household goods, books, dishes and silverware, countertop appliances, baby items, bedding and tools. Older TVs, typewriters, large appliances, computers, exercise equipment and old microwaves are not accepted.
