Purchases at this thrift shop fund the philanthropic programs of Assistance League of Greater San Diego, an all-volunteer nonprofit and a chapter of National Assistance League, which began in Los Angeles in the early 1900s. The shop shares its building with the chapter house. Its signature program, Operation School Bell, gives school clothes, backpacks and shoes to students from transitional kindergarten through sixth grade in underserved San Diego communities.
Sales also pay for college scholarships, sneakers and books for preschoolers of enlisted military families, loaner hearing aids for children waiting on replacements, read-aloud visits at elementary schools and help for foster youth. The shop is open four days a week. Its white building carries the shop's name in blue lettering beside a blue awning, with a tall palm tree out front.
