Open on weekdays and closed on weekends, Global Kindness Thrift Shop is run by Global Kindness, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) staffed entirely by volunteers. The organization has served families in Los Angeles since 2005 and now reaches more than 2,000 households. It provides food, clothing, financial aid, medical support and other essential services to families across the city.
The shop also takes donations, and the words "Donation Center" share the front window with "Thrift Shop" among painted white hearts. Above the entrance, the Global Kindness name runs in blue capital letters across a white facade, and racks of hats stand out on the sidewalk under a striped umbrella. The Los Angeles storefront ties everyday secondhand shopping to the group's wider work, which includes clothing for families in need.
