Upscale resale is the focus at the Encino Discovery Shop, owned and operated by the American Cancer Society. Sales of donated merchandise help fund the organization's fight against cancer. The Society has run its Discovery Shop stores for 55 years, and the chain has locations throughout California.
The racks and shelves hold clothing, accessories and jewelry, along with furniture, artwork, antiques, collectibles and other household goods. Everything sold here comes from donations. Big raised red letters spelling out the shop's name run across the white facade, under a balcony with a salmon-colored railing. This Los Angeles store is open seven days a week.
