Open on weekdays and closed on weekends, Straight From the Heart Resale in San Marcos, California, is run by Straight From the Heart, Inc. This grassroots 501(c)(3) nonprofit operates a resource center for foster, adoptive and kinship children and the caregivers who raise them. The resale shop helps support that work.
For 26 years, the organization has offered support and advocacy to families dealing with the child welfare system. Its staff is entirely volunteer and includes foster and adoptive parents along with retired social workers who have been through that system themselves. Community members also give their time and skills at the center. Beyond the store, the organization runs a holiday toy drive and a Kid Pack Room, and it provides training and sensory-inclusive resources.
