Run by the Community Church of the Monterey Peninsula in Carmel, the Givingtree Benefit Shop is a church thrift store that promotes Christian fellowship and helps both the church and the wider community. Once shop expenses and the church's operating and building needs are covered, the money goes to community groups and causes chosen by the shop committee, the Women's Association and the church's Board of Governors. These include the Food Bank of Monterey County, Gathering for Women and Peace of Mind Dog Rescue.
The shop opens Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Donations are tax deductible, and some go straight to local homeless programs such as I-HELP and Dorothy's Place. Racks of clothing line the walls, with shoes and glassware on white shelving behind glass display counters. The church founded the shop in October 2014.
