New and used merchandise for home improvement, renovation and do-it-yourself projects stocks the shelves of Habitat for Humanity's ReStore in McKinney, Texas. Habitat for Humanity of Collin County runs the store, and all proceeds from sales support its mission of building affordable homes for local families. Monthly and seasonal sales run throughout the year, and the store is open five days a week. A green metal canopy shades the front of the tan building, where patio chairs, sofas and other furniture are set out on display.
The inventory comes from donations made by the public, builders, remodelers and retail stores. Donors can drop off items at the store, which sits behind the Habitat offices, or schedule a free pickup for larger pieces, and each donation comes with a tax receipt.
