In Houston, Crossroads Trading belongs to a resale fashion chain that began in 1991 with a first shop on Fillmore Street in San Francisco and now runs 38 stores across the country. The store doesn't take donations. It buys men's and women's current, on-trend clothing and accessories in excellent condition and pays sellers in cash or in trade credit toward their next purchase.
Consignment is also offered. Sellers who can't come in can mail their items in a prepaid bag, and a waitlist app lets them join the selling line from home. Out front stands a gray sidewalk sign with the orange Crossroads logo that reads "Recycled Fashion." The doors open seven days a week, with evening hours on at least one day.
