Run by Goodwill Houston, a nonprofit, the Alvin thrift store and donation center in Alvin, Texas, combines secondhand shopping with a drop-off point for donated goods. Sales here pay for job training and placement for people who face barriers to employment, including veterans, older workers, at-risk youth, formerly incarcerated people and individuals with disabilities.
Bright blue window panels run across the storefront, each with a simple icon and a word: Shop, Discover, Donate or Engage. Along with thrift shopping and donations, this location also offers job support services to the local community. The doors are open seven days a week and stay open into the evening every day. Donations are taken starting an hour before the sales floor opens and continue until closing.
