Proceeds from the Hurlburt Thrift Shop fund dependent scholarships and several charities within the military community. Shopping is open to anyone with base access to Hurlburt Field. The racks and shelves hold clothing, toys, military gear, collectibles, household goods and décor, and payment is taken by cash, credit card or check. The store also sells online through an eBay shop.
Donations can be dropped off at any time in one of two bins, one at the front of the store and one beside the back door. Consignment is taken on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, and consigned items stay on sale for six weeks. The shop is open four days a week and depends on volunteers who help customers, stock the floor and enter data. On its pale block wall, plain dark letters spell out "THRIFT SHOP," and the front windows are lined with shelves of shoes.
