Downtown Farmington, Maine, is home to Garnet Villages Storefront, a community store that is cooperatively owned and operated. It is run by Garnet Villages, a community-based organization that works to expand access to affordable housing, education and community programs, including shared cooperative housing for artists and creatives.
The storefront is part secondhand store, part community center and part creative marketplace. It carries everyday essentials alongside work by local artists and offers chances to learn new skills. Purchases, donations and events all support the organization's goal of building a more connected community. The shop is open five days a week, Sundays included. It sits in a house with a covered front porch trimmed in white lattice and lined with flower boxes.
