In Toms River, New Jersey, the St. Vincent de Paul Society runs a thrift store that is open on weekdays and closed on weekends. It is part of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul USA, a Catholic organization whose volunteer members, known as Vincentians, serve people who are needy and suffering out of their Christian faith.
Across the country, the Society works with community partners to feed, clothe, house and heal individuals and families who have nowhere else to turn. Its work includes rental assistance, homelessness prevention, food pantries, disaster recovery, charitable pharmacies and thrift stores. More than 4,000 conferences and 81,000 members carry out this work. The Society has helped neighbors in need for over 175 years, and today it gives more than $1.7 billion in aid to over 5 million people every year.
