Mission Thrift, the store run by Union Gospel Mission of Salem, puts every dollar it earns toward the mission's ministries, which help men, women and children break free from homelessness. Donated goods come in through the mission's Donation Center, and pick-up is available for those who can't drop items off. Lighted white shelving along one wall holds lamps, framed art and rows of wicker baskets.
The Salem store is open six days a week and closed on Sundays. Mondays are Senior Day, and on Tuesdays new color tags rotate in every two weeks. Wednesdays bring a manager's special on one category, and Fridays offer bin shopping. Donations that never reach the sales floor still go on to serve Union Gospel Mission in other ways.
