FISH Thrift Store in Carson City raises money for Friends in Service Helping, a Northern Nevada nonprofit that has served the region since 1979. It sells affordable clothing, furniture and household goods, and it also offers job training to people served by FISH programs.
Sales and donated goods help pay for food banks, a Family Dining Room that serves hot meals every day, emergency shelters and transitional housing, medical, vision and dental care, and life skills classes. Most of the FISH team are volunteers, and some of them sort donations at the store. The cream-colored building has brick-red trim around arched windows, red barn-style doors, and a bright mural of a horse-drawn stagecoach along one side. The store is open six days a week and closed on Sundays.
