Run by Animal Care Society, the Re-Tail Thrift Shop in Louisville raises money for a nonprofit, no-kill shelter that has rescued dogs and cats since 1984. The organization takes no funding from local, state or federal agencies and relies on grants and community donations. Purchases here help care for animals waiting for new homes, including senior pets and those with medical needs.
The shop recently reopened after renovations. All of its proceeds go to the shelter's animals, a point spelled out on the signs in its front windows. The tan brick building has a white sign with a green paw print, set above black striped awnings. It's open five days a week, Tuesday through Saturday.
