Owned and operated by City Union Mission, City Thrift Shawnee puts every dollar it brings in toward shelter, meals and recovery programs in Kansas City. The store carries clothing, furniture, housewares and books, and new stock goes out every morning.
The store accepts donations of clothing, housewares, furniture, books and electronics during drop-off hours. Schools, scout troops, churches and businesses can also host donation drives that earn cash and support the mission. Regular shoppers can join the 5Stars Rewards program to earn points on every purchase. On the tan front of the building, a blue-and-gold shield logo sits beside the white lettering, and orange donation bins stand near the entrance. The doors open seven days a week, and some days run into the evening.
