Housed in a restored historic dairy barn that once belonged to the Saint Francis Health Resort, the Book Barn in Denville holds more than 200,000 donated books. Its shelves also carry vinyl records, CDs, DVDs, puzzles, comics and games. Everything for sale comes from donations, so the inventory changes daily, and the store runs as a used bookstore and thrift shop.
The Book Barn belongs to the Thrift Barns of Morris County, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that has been independent since 2016. Volunteers run the whole operation. Every sale and donation goes toward local charities and nonprofit groups, and the organization has given more than $1.8 million to them so far. The store opens on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
