Treasures On Main is a Carthage, Missouri resale shop with clothing, furniture, antiques and home goods, open five days a week. Upholstered sofas, framed art and brass table lamps fill the sales floor, and a corner with built-in wooden kitchen cabinets holds glassware and dishes.
The shop is tied to Carthage Crisis Center, a faith-based nonprofit that runs a homeless shelter, a recycling center and a food distribution center in Carthage. Representatives from nine area churches came together to set up the organization, and it became a 501(c)(3) corporation in March 1996. Its first shelter was a 2,200-square-foot building that volunteers with many different skills remodeled from top to bottom.
