Norfolk, Virginia has had Thrift Store USA since 2002. The store covers more than 27,000 square feet and puts thousands of new items out every day, along with brand-new American-made mattresses. Its sales benefit Seton Youth Shelters. Tuesdays are College Day, Wednesdays are Senior Day and Thursdays are Military Day, and each one comes with a discount.
The store is open seven days a week and stays open into the evening most days. Its donation bins take clothing, shoes, linens and other small items, and pickups can be scheduled for larger pieces. The building runs on solar power and has two free public electric car chargers along its side. Out front, a red and blue sign sits above navy awnings, and dressed mannequins fill the display windows.
