A charity shop run by a ministry, the PRM Thrift Store is fully owned and operated by Peninsula Rescue Mission. That nonprofit was founded in 1966 and serves men and women facing homelessness and poverty in Newport News and across the Virginia Peninsula. All of the store's profits go to that work. The shop has been open since the early 1970s and sells secondhand clothing, furniture and household goods.
The store is also central to the mission's B.R.I.D.G.E. Program. Men in rehabilitation sort merchandise and help customers, building job skills and confidence along the way. Donations can be dropped off in person during business hours, and the mission picks up donated goods on set weekdays. The store is open six days a week and closed Sundays. Out front, a tall lighted sign with the mission's colorful cross logo stands before a long brown-brick building.
