Sales at Joy Junction Thrift Shoppe in Albuquerque support Joy Junction, a faith-based nonprofit church ministry that has provided food, shelter, clothing and safety to the city's homeless men, women, children and families since 1986. The organization takes no city, state or federal government funding and relies on gifts from local residents, churches and businesses. Its shelter serves as many as 350 people a night.
Clothing donations such as sweaters, jeans, t-shirts, blouses and socks are accepted seven days a week at the Joy Junction shelter. The shop sits in a whitewashed brick building with arched windows, under a teal and white sign trimmed with red tile. It is open six days a week, stays open into the evening on at least one of them, and closes on Sundays.
