Run by Habitat for Humanity of Taos, ReStore South turns donated goods into funding for Habitat projects that build homes and help local families reach affordable homeownership. Its stock centers on the inside of the house: indoor home decor and furniture are sold alongside clothing, jewelry and shoes, with new items mixed in among secondhand ones.
Donations keep the shelves stocked, and the ReStore will schedule pickups for donated items. A blue-and-white Habitat ReStore sign hangs on the tan stucco building, and carved wooden posts hold up a covered portal over the entrance. The store in Taos is open five days a week, so shoppers have most of the week to come by and browse the decor and apparel.
