In Los Alamos, Shop on the Corner runs from the lower level of Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church, and volunteers do all the work there. It sells affordable clothing, household goods, toys and other things for children, holiday items and a wide mix of everyday goods, and it opens on Wednesdays.
The weekly sales money goes to local and regional charities, mostly in northern New Mexico. Some of it is set aside for communities in crisis, such as after fires and floods or when food and shelter are needed. Fifteen percent goes to the church to cover the cost of the space. Unsold items go to Big Brothers Big Sisters and to the community of Bernal. Donations can be dropped off at any hour in two large bins outside the shop entrance, and tax receipts are available on request.
