In Albuquerque, S.A.F.E. House runs Thriftique as its own independent thrift store, sending the full proceeds of every sale to its shelter operations. Community donations make up the whole inventory, from clothing and household goods to furniture and more. The store is open weekdays and closed weekends.
Donations come in on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays through a bay door at the back of the building. Mattresses, TVs, certain electronics and anything needing repairs or heavy cleaning are turned away, and items meant for the shelter should be labeled as shelter donations. Out front, a red-and-green striped awning hangs beneath a sign topped with a bright yellow sun. Shelter residents and rapid re-housing participants receive items from the store at no charge.
