Every item on the shelves of Assistance League of Albuquerque's Thrift Shop and its neighbor next door, Shop on the Corner, comes from community donations. The two shops are the nonprofit chapter's main ongoing fundraisers, and 75 to 80 percent of revenue goes back to the community each year. That money funds programs such as Operation School Bell, Buddy Bear Patrol, Hungry and Homeless, Assault Survivor Assistance and scholarships.
Wooden dining sets and shelves of china and dishware fill part of the sales floor. The shops are open four days a week, and donations are accepted on five. More than 200 member volunteers run the chapter. It began in 1959 as the Service League of Albuquerque with 23 members.
