In St. Petersburg, Pet Pal Thrift Store raises money for Pet Pal Animal Shelter, a no-kill nonprofit, and its sales help pay for the care of the shelter's sick and injured animals. Its shelves carry clothing, shoes, jewelry, artwork and collectibles, housewares, books, games and toys, linens, luggage, lamps, sporting goods and small furniture. A bright blue sign with white lettering and a cartoon dog hangs above the entrance.
Donations are tax deductible and are dropped off at the store in the morning before shopping hours begin, on the same five days it opens, Sundays included. Kitchen items, small appliances and lamps must work, games need all their parts, and flatscreen TVs are welcome. Mattresses, large appliances, computers, exercise equipment, textbooks and encyclopedias are not accepted.
